It’s been awhile since I’ve updated my blog and I have lots to catch ya’ll up on. One of the updates being- my new years resolution is to add to my blog in a more timely manner lol.
But
anyways… month six!! Month six consisted of a mixture of California, Texas, and
Oklahoma, which are all pieces of home to me in one way or another.
For the
latest updates, let’s start with California. December 16th I
finished the fall semester with City Year and I began to realize how fast the
semester went by and reflected on the amazing students and co-workers I’ve met.
I’ve also come to realize what a dream team I get to work with every day. The
six of us on my City Year team are each SO different, but I love how we enjoy
each other and have built a strong team dynamic. They make work fun!
Then, comes
my visit to Texas, which was a whole journey in itself. To get to LAX, I went
to the bus station to then catch my flight. However, the pilot was late, which
delayed the whole trip tremendously! Once we finally got to Las Vegas, for the
connecting flight, that plane took forever to leave as well, which delayed the
flight even more. I usually love flying and never rush the process, but all the
slow downs made me wonder if I was ever going to get to Texas. Finally, at 2:30
in the morning I secured my lost suitcases and left the airport. I joke and say
that I got the best Texas welcome as my Mom took me to Whataburger that early
in the morning to get a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit! Now if that doesn’t exude
“WELCOME TO TEXAS” I don’t know what else does. Haha!
That first
week of my Christmas break I visited my relatives in Dallas with my family.
During my time there it brought back a special memory. I began to remember
about a year ago my family and I were visiting my aunt and while we were staying
the night in the guest room I had a dream. In my dream someone asked me, “What
do you want to do with your life?” and I responded with, “I want to help
low-income students in LA.” Immediately, after that response I realized I was
sleep talking and saying those words out loud in real life because I woke up to
my Dad defiantly saying to me, “Uh, what!? No you don’t!” I find it funny that
the desire to be here in LA was something I truly knew was something I wanted
to do that I even unconsciously discussed it in my sleep. Being in Dallas and
looking back a year ago I’m so thankful for how God has paved the way to walk
out this season of my life in LA. I had no idea how I’d get here, but I’m here
and God has proven faithful once again through this journey.
Then I
visited Oklahoma to visit some college friends, which was so refreshing and
fun. Definitely needed that trip!
After that
quick trip, I returned to Texas to celebrate the New Year with a few more
college friends in Dallas, which was a blast as well.
Of course,
having fun these days always comes with a price, and after returning back to
home in Texas, I found out I got covid. ☹
Thankfully I only had minor symptoms and actually was able to enjoy my
quarantine time of just resting, reflecting, and taking things slow. This was a
good rejuvenating time for me. However, it delayed my return to California for
a week and two weeks for work. The funny thing is that I was enjoying my
Texas/Oklahoma time so much with the slower pace of life, having a car, and
familiarity, that I didn’t want to leave. So, my prayer to God during the
beginning of my break (before covid) was, “God, prepare me to go back to work
so that when it’s time to return, I am ready and eager to go back because right
now I don’t feel that way.” Looking back I feel like God responded with, “sure
thing girl!” He definitely answered my prayer (not how I expected) and my 2.5
week break was extended to a month. Haha! After those days of quarantining and covid
testing, I was reminded that God heard my prayer as I was definitely ready to
return to work in person, after being quarantined for those few days.
So, these
are the updates from month number six. Definitely not as “spiritual” and “deep”
as they usually are lol, but if you’re looking for some “wisdom” to take away,
I guess I’ll say “be specific in what you pray for” lol, because a visit home,
may just become an unexpected extended stay. 😉
That’s all
I have for now.
Stay tuned
for more!

I LOVE IT! I love the adventure God took you through and how He cared to answer your prayer of wanting to feel refreshed in an unexpected way!
ReplyDeleteLove all your blogs! Thank you for being real in your walk with God
ReplyDeleteI love to hear about your life with Jesus, whether its here in Texas, LA or wherever he leads you. Love you my Sunshine 😘💜
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part was how you were sleep talking and your dad heard you.
ReplyDeleteIt’s crazy how this desire to go to LA and help people was so embedded in you that it even spilled out in your sleep. Not only was the dream symbolic, but it served as a reminder for you when you were not as excited to leave Texas and go back to LA. I wouldn’t blame you though, Texas is the best *country* in the world. In those times when turning back is easier than moving forward, may God remind you of the dreams and visions He has placed in your heart for the people of LA. God is your supplier and you are his vessel!
Dream on, Brittany!
